Location: Tung Chung MTR Station
Topic: MTR Public Open Space Project – Internship at Designing HK
Year of Study: Year 2 Summer Break
MTR Public Open Space was an initiative by a non-profit organization called Designing Hong Kong. The goal of the project is to look for innovative ideas and different ways to enhance spaces located outside MTR stations, just like emulating the vibrancy and liveliness of European piazzas. In the context of Hong Kong, the MTR is always located at the heart of the district. The main initiative is to look for opportunities to strengthen these nodes, making it more inviting and comfortable for people and encourages social interactions and introduce new activities.
I was involved in a team of 3 students and we looked at Tung Chung. We studied patterns of activities of the people in the square throughout the day, figured out the main problems of the site and came up with design solutions.
